The number of NFL record lists that are "Derrick Henry and then a bunch of Hall of Famers" just increased.
Henry came into Week 5 needing just 1 touchdown to enter the 100 TDs club, and 18 rushing yards to enter the 10,000 rushing yards club. He managed both marks before halftime.
Folks who have followed Henry's illustrious career know just how many "Henry + HOF'ers" lists he's on. During his final couple seasons with the Titans, it felt like every other game broadcast would include one such list.
But on his long march to a bust of his own in those hallowed halls, crossing the 100 TD and 10k yards marks was paramount. Making this accomplishment even more impressive is just how quickly he managed to do it.
Henry is just the 27th player to get to 100 career TDs. Everybody in this club is already a Hall of Famer except for 3 locks to be in soon (Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Antonio Gates), 2 active players (Derrick Henry and Mike Evans), and two heavily debated players (Frank Gore and Shaun Alexander).
As for the 10k yard club, the run-heavy nature of an NFL gone-by has led to that being a slightly less exclusive group. Henry is the 31st player to hit this mark, over half of which are in the Hall.
But accomplishing both feats is and even smaller group of NFL greats: Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Frank Gore, Barry Sanders, Adrian Peterson, Curtis Martin, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jim Brown, Marshal Faulk, Marcus Allen, Franco Harris, John Riggins, and now Derrick Henry.
Gore and Peterson are the only other players in this group not enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Peterson is a 1st ballot HOFer once he's eligible to be voted in, and Gore is a hotly-debated topic.
And of those 13 players, Henry is only the fifth to get to 100/10K in his first 125 games.
For those who weren't sure yet, perhaps this latest perspective is enough to get you to realize the obvious: Derrick Henry is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer, and has been for some time.
