Derrick Henry joins list of Tennessee Titans legends who turned to rival Baltimore Ravens
Denny Simmons / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens have been rivals for nearly three decades now. And if you count the years before both franchises moved cities this rivalry extends multiple decades even beyond that. However, over the years, for some reason Titans greats have been known to turn to the Ravens when they hit free agency. Derrick Henry nows joins an illustrious list of all-time Titans greats who have left the franchise to become Baltimore Ravens too.

In case you missed the big news, it was reported by multiple media members and then confirmed by The King himself that Henry intends to sign a two-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens worth up to $20 million dollars. The agreement will be made official when NFL free agency opens on Wednesday.

But what other Titans greats have joined the Ravens over the years? It's been a bit, but long-time fans likely remember the surprising exodus of some all-time Titans players who joined the Ravens nearly all at once.

List of Tennessee Titans greats to join Baltimore Ravens

  • Steve McNair (2006)
  • Samari Rolle (2005)
  • Derrick Mason (2005)
  • Derrick Henry (2024)

Yes, despite the Ravens and Titans brutal rivalry at the time, Steve McNair, Samari Rolle, and Derrick Mason all left the team around the same time to join Baltimore back in 2005 and 2006.

The two teams had recently endured some brutal bouts against each other in the early 2000s, but that didn't stop McNair and company from joining their rival Ravens.

The rivalry built up from 1996 to 2000 where the two teams exchanged absolutely brutal dirty hits in every single AFC Central face off. Things came to a boil during their January 2001 playoff matchup where Ray Lewis ran back back the pick-six defensive touchdown off a pass bobbled by Eddie George. But then in the 2003 Wild Card Round Steve McNair got his revenge, winning the game late to snap a five-game losing streak against the purple and black.

Despite all the history, when McNair was forced out of Nashville following the 2005 season he joined Rolle and Mason in Baltimore to perhaps get back at the Titans for letting him go.

The rivalry has since cooled in recent years, but it will still be quite strange to see Derrick Henry line up in the backfield for the Baltimore Ravens. Especially for those Titans fans who still hold a grudge against the Ravens for all those dirty hits and (alleged) intentional injury dealt to Chris Johnson in the 2008 Divisional Round of the playoffs.
