Derrick Henry, who’ll play for the Ravens now, claims Jerry Jones or the Cowboys ‘never called’ him during free agency

Derrick Henry was strongly linked with a move to the Dallas Cowboys. The towering running back even chose Dallas to kick off his offseason workout regime. But Henry claimed that he never received any offers from the Cowboys or Jerry Jones .

While appearing on SiriusXM Mad Dog Radio with Adam Schein, Henry revealed that he was waiting for the Cowboys to approach him. And for good reason. Their starting running back became vacant following the exit of Tony Pollard, who wanted to stay at Arlington.

The Cowboys never called at all--I don’t really know what’s going on over there. Derrick Henry told Schein

Indeed, what is going on inside the Cowboys’ building? They have been very sluggish in the free-agent market, while other franchises are making big moves. Apparently, they held talks with Zack Moss before he agreed to sign with the Cincinnati Bengals. An insider revealed that the Cowboys pulled their feet back after listening to Moss’ wage demands.

Anyway, Henry eventually signed with the Baltimore Ravens. He put pen to paper on a two-year, $16 million deal worth up to $20 million. It also includes $9 million fully guaranteed in the first year.

Derrick Henry’s first press conference as a Raven

The Cowboys may have missed a trick here by not signing the two-time NFL rushing yards leader when their running game is one of the weakest in the league. But then again, one team’s loss is another team’s gain. Instead of receiving passes from Dak Prescott in Dallas, he will have NFL MVP Lamar Jackson handing off balls during match days.

On Thursday, the Ravens introduced Derrick Henry to the Baltimore crowd during his first press conference. He confided that M&T Bank Park was where he wanted to play.

It was really a no-brainer. This is where I knew I wanted to be. I love the style and physicality that they play with. Henry said

Unlike the Dallas Cowboys, the Ravens had the top three running games in the league last year. Leading from the front was Jackson himself, who had more than 800 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Henry will replace the recently departed Gus Edwards for the Chargers, who racked up 810 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Impressive stats from the former Raven. However, a 6-foot-3, 247-pounder is no slouch either. Henry has registered 1,000 rushing yards in five of his last six campaigns. The Ravens witnessed how dominating he can be when the Titans stunned them in the 2019 playoff as Henry gained 195 yards on the night.
