Deshaun Watson Sends Message After Former Teammate's Retirement Decision

Deshaun Watson missed the entire 2025 NFL season after undergoing surgery for a re-torn Achilles tendon. Without him, the Cleveland Browns used three different starting quarterbacks, going 5-12 and missing the playoffs for a second straight year.

Going into the final season of his five-year, $230 million contract, the former Clemson Tiger is looking to bounce back. When speaking to reporters, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam claimed that Watson has a "great chance" to reclaim the starting spot with new head coach Todd Monken.

While the three-time Pro Bowler works toward his return, one of Watson's former teammates has called it quits.

Linebacker Anthony Walker Jr. was selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. He spent four seasons with the team, serving as a key contributor. In 2019, he recorded career highs in tackles (124) and sacks (2.5).

Once his rookie contract expired, Walker signed with the Browns before the 2021 season. Walker spent three seasons with Cleveland, appearing in 28 games with 27 starts. The former Northwestern Wildcat tallied 170 tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack and eight pass deflections during that time

After short stints with the Miami Dolphins (2024) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2025), Walker announced his retirement on Thursday, writing "NEXT CHAPTER Dear God, Thank You," via an Instagram post.

Watson, who spent two seasons in Cleveland with Walker, quickly took notice, commenting, "More GLORY MY BRUDDA!! "

Despite not boasting any Pro Bowl appearances or All-Pro selections, Walker still produced a noteworthy nine-year career. At 30 years old, he leaves it all behind, obtaining $15.3 million in career earnings.
