Details Emerge on Jimmy Graham’s Return With Saints After Arrest
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

New Orleans Saints veteran Jimmy Graham was arrested by police in California after reportedly walking in traffic. The five-time Pro Bowl tight end reportedly had a bit of an encounter with local police as he was being taken into custody, which made this incident even more compelling.

Jimmy Graham Set To Rejoin Team on Wednesday, Per Dennis Allen

The Saints immediately released a statement in the aftermath of Graham’s arrest. According to the team, the 36-year-old suffered what was deemed a “likely seizure” by team doctors. This was apparently why Graham got disoriented during the episode.

Jimmy Graham reportedly rejoined the team shortly after his arrest, and the Saints said that he was set to undergo more tests on his condition.

Unsurprisingly, the ex-All-Pro TE was forced to sit out Sunday’s preseason contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. On Tuesday, New Orleans head coach Dennis Allen was asked to provide an update on Graham’s current condition. It was at this point that the tenured shot-caller revealed the team’s plan for the former University of Miami standout:

“I’m not going to get into all the specifics in terms of what the results are or anything like that,” Allen said, via Doug Mouton of WWL (h/t Josh Alper of PFT). “I expect to see Jimmy out here, hopefully tomorrow. I don’t think it’s anything that’s going to cause him to miss any significant amount of time. I expect him to be out here practicing really quickly.”

The fact that Graham isn’t expected to miss more time because of this incident is an undeniably positive development. This also means that the veteran has likely been cleared of any charges from local authorities. At this point, we could see him take the field on Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Graham, who spent the first five seasons of his decorated career with the Saints, re-signed with the team this summer. The former third-round pick had to sit out last season after failing to secure a contract in the NFL. New Orleans gave Graham another shot this year, and it’s great to know that this recent hiccup isn’t going to have a significant impact on his comeback.
