Detroit Lions Breakout Star Showing Out at OTAs: ‘He’s on a Mission’
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions boast one of the premier offenses in the NFL, built around quarterback Jared Goff, whom the organization made a sizable commitment to this offseason.

As OTA practices continue this spring, one of Goff’s most explosive weapons looks primed to make major strides this coming season as a potential breakout star.

Wide receiver Jameson Williams, 23, caught 24 passes for 354 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season while introducing an element of explosiveness to the Lions’ offense. This season, Williams could be in for an expanded role.

If this spring’s practices are any indication, Williams could be primed to emerge as the Lions’ No. 2 receiver opposite Amon-Ra St. Brown.

“He’s a man on a mission, and I’m just gonna leave it at that,” Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters, of Williams.

Williams is entering his third NFL season, when receivers typically hit their stride, but more importantly, is now two years removed from a torn ACL suffered during his final game at Alabama. That combination could prove pivotal to unlocking his potential in 2024.

“And we’re two practices in (to OTAs) and if you said, ‘Give me one player that is the most improved from that start to finish in that time,’ and Jamo would be that guy right now,” Campbell explained.

The Lions are considered legitimate Super Bowl contenders this season, in part because of the myriad of weapons around Goff. And, Williams has the chance to separate himself as one of Detroit’s most explosive.
