Detroit Lions Flagship Radio Hosts Call Jared Goff Chants 'Stale'

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has become one of the most popular athletes to play in Motown.

For an organization that had a long history of futility, a player leading a dormant franchise into the NFC Championship game has sparked an intense level of admiration and vocal expression of gratitude, even at other sporting events.

In the last month, Jared Goff chants have broken out at several Detroit Red Wings games at Little Caesars Arena.

At first, it was a noticeable sign of respect for a player that embodies the comeback, gritty spirit of the town he plays in.

But with the Red Wings on the verge of the playoffs, a local 97.1 The Ticket personality and writer have expressed the chants have become "stale".

Will Burchfield shared, "PSA on Dylan Larkin and the Jared Goff chants that were the perfect rallying cry for the Lions but have turned a littttle stale (ducks for cover) at hockey games in Hockeytown where a born-and-bred Michigander is trying to lead the Wings back to the playoffs (ducks again)."

New 97.1 The Ticket morning host Jim Costa echoed the sentiment, expressing, "I know I’m the wrong messenger but… It’s time to put away Jared Goff chants. Stale & lowkey disrespectful Wings are in the playoffs & deserve their own love, their own chants."

While the Red Wings are not as popular as the Lions, there is a growing hope Steve Yzerman will bring a historic franchise back to prominence.

Fans had a mixed reaction, as many support the outward expression of gratitude for the 29-year-old signal-caller, while others indicated the chants have started to feel forced, especially in a home game against the Islanders, which ended up in a loss that ended a six-game winning streak.
