Detroit Lions Made This One Request to NFL About 2026 NFL Schedule

The Detroit Lions are set to play a game on their 2026 NFL schedule overseas.

For the first time since 2015, the team will play a game outside of the country. Detroit's opponent has not been set, but the team will likely travel to Munich Germany in early November. The official date of the game has not been released yet officially.

Team president Rod Wood expressed he did not ask the league to grant the Lions a bye week after the overseas content.

He has in the past made several requests about the team's schedule.

“The one thing I did push for was to not have the Thursday-to-Thursday games after Thanksgiving. Assuming this international game in Munich might be in November, because I think the games in Germany have been in November," said Wood, via the team's social media channel. "The thing about flying back, playing a game, playing Thanksgiving, then playing the Thursday afterwards, it’s really tough on the players and travel. So, that’s the one thing I requested, and hopefully I’ve made my case.”

It is not expected the team will have a bye week after playing in Germany, so any additional relief on the schedule would be welcomed, as Detroit did struggle on short rest last season.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is excited to return to Germany

Detroit's top receiver had the opportunity to learn the schedule news from his mother, who surprised him with a video call to break the news that team would be playing in Germany.

"I'm excited. I've seen videos. I've seen teams play there," said St. Brown, via ESPN. "I've asked players how it was playing in Germany and they all said, 'Man, the fans are electric, they're amazing.' So, it's going to be great just for me to be out there with my teammates."

St. Brown added further, "With them and my family to spend some time out there with them and to be able to play football in Germany, which has always been a dream of mine since I was a kid."

The former fourth-round pick has made many trips to Germany during the offseason. Last year, a couple of former teammates, Kalif Raymond and Craig Reynolds, visited with him.
