The Detroit Lions' secondary, already thinned by injuries, picked up a veteran insurance policy on Wednesday, with NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reporting that the Lions are signing slot cornerback Arthur Maulet to the practice squad.
The move comes amid shifting medical news around starter Terrion Arnold, who, after a concerning shoulder scare, has received a second opinion that indicates he will not need shoulder surgery and should make a return this season.
Maulet, a 32-year-old undrafted CB out of Memphis, has carved out an eight-year career as a nickel/slot corner with stops at the New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and most recently the Houston Texans.
He signed with the Texans on July 23 but was released on August 26 as part of the final roster cuts. Now, he's been given a shot with the Lions.

Lions have been looking for CB help after key injuries.
Arnold, the Lions’ 2024 first-round pick who started the first five games this NFL season, initially was feared to have a season-ending shoulder injury after aggravating it in Week 5 vs. the Bengals.
Coach Dan Campbell described it as a long absence, but a second medical opinion obtained this week reduced the severity, and Arnold could now even return later this month.
Through five games, he had 22 tackles and four passes defended; his two-year pro totals sit at 82 tackles, 14 passes defended and one fumble recovery.
Detroit enters Week 6 at 4–1 and will face the Kansas City Chiefs (2-3) on "Sunday Night Football" at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, a game that suddenly elevates the importance of every available cornerback.
With D.J. Reed and former second-round pick Ennis Rakestraw Jr. both already on IR, Detroit has leaned on Amik Robertson, Rock Ya-Sin and Avonte Maddox as its primary perimeter pieces.
Practice-squad elevations (and veteran additions like Maulet) are now a practical necessity while the Arnold situation clarifies.
