Detroit Lions On The Verge Of First Division Title Win Since 1993
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

For the Detroit Lions, years of pain and suffering are on the verge of ending. From a zero win season, to a joint fan journey on Hard Knocks, for any neutral fans, and even die hard fans of other teams, there are a lot of people that follow the NFL, who are rooting for a victory today for the team from Detroit.

Detroit Lions Clinching Win

With a win today against the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Lions will clinch their first division title since 1993. With all eyes set on Minneapolis, Minnesota, today’s matchup is about more than playoff hopes, or winning another divisional game, it is about a long process of successfully turning around a once storied franchise.

This team is doing well, and offensively, has been at times firing on all cylinders. Any team will have miscues throughout the season, but overall this Detroit Lions team has been consistent, especially on the offensive end.

This team is ranked third in yards at 394.4 yards per game. Under Jared Goff, they have not only been able to move the chains, but are also converting yards into points scored. They are averaging the fourth best 27.3 points per game and have really relied on their passing attack.

Spreading the ball around, Jared Goff has linked up with his number one receiver, Amon-Ra St. Brown the most. The receiver has over 1,000 yards, and seven touchdowns on the season. But he doesn’t even have the highest contributed scores on the season from the wide receiving corps. Sam LaPorta has nine receiving touchdowns, on a little over 750 receiving yards.

Bottom line, when this offense is clicking, they are one of the best to do it this year.

Detroit Lions Coach

Coach Dan Campbell is the face of this team, and the turnaround that we have witnessed. True to his nature, he is not satisfied, is keeping the intensity, and is not taking any opponent lightly. Heading into their matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, Coach Dan Campbell shared the following about his upcoming opponent:

I do think this is a better team than what we faced last year. I get it, they don’t have (Kirk Cousins). But they ask the quarterback to do what they do well, manage the game, get the ball to your playmakers and this defense is much better.

Not one to mince words, and always willing to say what is on his mind, it should come to no one’s surprise that Coach Dan Campbell acknowledged the quarterback situation of the Minnesota Vikings, while also pointing out the points of concern that they can pose against his team.

It is his approach, intensity, and the way that he is unapologetically himself that helps players buy in to their coach and their team. While many will be looking, hoping for a clinching division title victory, for Dan Campbell it will just be another opportunity to get a win on the day. It will be another chance to allow the hard work and dedication show up on the field, as they march on a potential playoff run this year.
