ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa turned heads Saturday at the Meijer Performance Center, delivering a standout performance during the team’s first padded practice of the 2025 training camp. The third-round draft pick, selected 70th overall, showcased his athleticism and playmaking ability, fueling optimism for his rookie season and sparking buzz as a potential fantasy football sleeper.

TeSlaa, a Hudsonville, Michigan native, hauled in a 29-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Hendon Hooker during second-unit drills, capping the practice with a highlight-reel moment. He displayed his 6-foot-4, 214-pound frame and 4.43-second 40-yard dash speed, snagging a contested pass down the sideline while keeping both feet inbounds. His knack for acrobatic catches and reliable hands, which produced zero drops on 100 targets over his final two college seasons, was evident as he outmaneuvered veteran cornerback Avante Moss.

In college, TeSlaa carved a unique path. At Division II Hillsdale College from 2020-22, he exploded for 68 receptions, 1,325 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 2022, earning Great Midwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. Transferring to Arkansas for 2023-24, he recorded 62 catches for 896 yards and five touchdowns across 25 games, averaging 19.5 yards per reception in 2024, ranking 12th in FBS. His ability to stretch the field and win contested catches stood out, though he struggled with separation against SEC defenders.

The Lions traded up 32 spots in the 2025 NFL Draft to secure TeSlaa, parting with two 2026 third-round picks. General manager Brad Holmes, who called TeSlaa his favorite receiver in the draft, praised his physical tools and versatility. TeSlaa’s 96 Athleticism Score at the NFL Combine, the highest among wide receivers, underscored his elite speed and 39.5-inch vertical leap. Analysts noted his potential as a big-slot receiver or X-receiver, though he must refine his route-running and ability to beat press coverage.

TeSlaa’s early camp performance suggests he could carve out a role in Detroit’s crowded receiver room, led by All-Pro Amon-Ra St. Brown and speedster Jameson Williams. His size, speed, and blocking prowess make him a candidate for gadget plays, special teams, or the WR5 spot behind veterans Kalif Raymond and Tim Patrick. Social media posts from camp highlight his ability to create separation and make tough catches, with fans and analysts alike noting his potential to outperform expectations.

For fantasy football players, TeSlaa’s upside makes him an intriguing late-round pick. His deep-ball threat and red-zone potential, combined with the Lions’ high-powered offense led by Jared Goff, position him as a sleeper. While his college production was modest, his athletic traits and early camp buzz suggest he could emerge as a contributor if given opportunities. As training camp progresses, TeSlaa’s ability to stack strong performances will determine his role in Detroit’s quest for a playoff run.
