Detroit Lions schedule release: The NFL does the Lions a big favor with the weather again

The Detroit Lions' 2025 schedule is officially out, and we now have the answer to the biggest question we've had about this schedule release.

We're talking about the weather. The Lions already have the third-hardest strength of schedule in the NFL. If they then have to play some of these away games in the snow, that's only going to make it harder.

In the last two seasons, the Lions have received gifts from the league. In 2023, Detroit had to play on the road in a cold-weather game just one time, and that was their Week 14 loss to the Bears. Every other game was indoors.

In 2024, they got that treatment again with just one cold-weather game in the winter months. That was their Week 16 game against the Bears. Their other outdoor game was in San Francisco, and it was nice out.

This year, the Lions have to play outside in Philadelphia, Chicago, Green Bay, Washington, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Kansas City.

The Lions got some help from the league again. Outside of Week 18 in Chicago, the Lions really don't have to play outside barely at all.

They have a Week 8 bye, and on the other side of that, they play the Commanders and Eagles outside to start November when it's still somewhat nice out. Then they have six straight games in domes before the aforementioned Bears finale.

For a team that plays so well inside and in good weather, they scored big time by having this hard schedule mostly take place inside.
