The Detroit Lions needed to address the center position this offseason. Frank Ragnow planned to unretire in December, but the attempted comeback was unsuccessful after a routine MRI in November revealed a Grade 3 MCL sprain for the four-time Pro Bowler. Graham Glasgow started 14 games there, but things did not go according to plan, with the Lions releasing him last week.
According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, the Lions are set to sign former Panthers versatile interior offensive lineman Cade Mays to a three-year, $25 million contract, expecting to step in as the long-term replacement for Frank Ragnow. This signing signals that Tate Ratledge stays at guard after a possible position change. Lastly, the Lions should have at least three starting offensive line spots filled in: Penei Sewell at left or right tackle, Mays at center, and Ratledge at right guard.

Cade Mays began the year as the backup but took over the starting center job in Week 3 after Austin Corbett went down with a knee injury and held onto the spot once Corbett returned. Mays had a strong campaign, allowing a 2.56% pressure rate, which ranked 11th among 32 centers, along with nine hurries, four quarterback hits, and zero sacks across 15 games and 13 starts. He also posted a 67.6 pass-blocking grade, a 58.3 run-blocking grade, and a 61 PFF grade.
