The Detroit Lions might have to consider moving on from a fan favorite this upcoming offseason.
Detroit dominated the NFC the last two seasons in large part because of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Unfortunately, "Sonic and Knuckles" haven't been as lethal together this season. In fact, the Lions are starting to have a one-man show in the backfield.
Gibbs, 23, is enjoying another stellar season with the Lions. He has 1,102 rushing yards, 560 receiving yards and 17 total touchdowns. Montgomery, on the other hand, has just 649 yards on the ground this year. He's on pace to have the worst statistical season of his career.
It's pretty clear Montgomery's role in Dan Campbell's offense is shrinking. He hasn't recorded more than 10 carries in a game since November 9.
On Tuesday night, NFL fans noticed that Montgomery liked a comment on his Instagram suggesting he should request a trade.
"I love you bro, but you should request a trade," an Instagram user wrote. "The way they're treating you and glazing Gibbs is atrocious. Look what happens when we don't use you. We lose."
Yikes: Lions star RB David Montgomery liked an Instagram reply under one of his posts to request a TRADE…

Montgomery is under contract for the 2026 season. His base salary is set at $5.49 million.
If Montgomery wants out before June 1, the Lions could move on from him and save about $3.5 million in cap space.
We'll see if Montgomery clears the air regarding his future with the Lions. For what it's worth, he missed Tuesday's practice due to an illness.
