Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions announced a pair of roster moves after their preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mohamed Ibrahim, who gained popularity throughout his first NFL training camp was waived.

While the talented running back went undrafted, the team signed the former Big-Ten running back to a $100,000 guaranteed deal.

Detroit's battle for the third running back spot was expected to quite close, with Craig Reynolds and Jermar Jefferson vying to play behind David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Early at camp, many expected Justin Jackson to secure the job, but his unexpected retirement has left the competition still up in the air.

In a corresponding move, safety Scott Nelson was signed to the roster.

by the Steelers in October 2022 and had multiple stints with the team as insurance at the safety position. Nelson originally entered the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks as a UDFA. Pittsburgh signed Nelson to a futures contract at the end of last season.

During his collegiate career at Wisconsin, Nelson recorded 127 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, one sack, 16 pass breakups and four interceptions.

Nelson, 23, stands at 6-foot-2 and 205-pound rookie. He spent the 2022 offseason and preseason with the Seattle Seahawks
