Developing: Mark Sanchez Arrested Just Hours After Being Stabbed

In a bizarre twist to what had been a tragic story earlier this morning, FOX NFL color commentator and former quarterback Mark Sanchez has been arrested following the stabbing incident that got him sent to the hospital.

A short while ago, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department released a statement announcing that Sanchez has been arrested on chargers of "battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication." All of those charges are misdemeanors. No one else is being sought in relation to the incident at this time.

"After further investigation and following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, IMPD arrested 38-year-old Mark Sanchez for his alleged role in this incident. Sanchez was arrested at the hospital for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, all of which are misdemeanors. All involved parties have been identified and no further individuals are being sought by detectives.

"Sanchez is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the Adult Detention Center.

"The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the final charging decision. An arrest is mere an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

"IMPD does not release probable cause affidavits. Those must be obtained from the Marion County Prosecutor's Office or Marion County Clerk's Office."

What happened?

The arrest of Sanchez follows a morning of investigation, which included some reports suggesting that this wasn't a one-sided conflict. FOX59 news anchor Angela Ganote shared the police narrative this Saturday, revealing that Sanchez was allegedly not cooperative with police at first.

Sanchez allegedly threatened a man who was delivering food for not moving his car. The man told police that Sanchez threatened him, at which point he attempted to use pepper spray on Sanchez, which did not work. At that point, the man drew a knife to defend himself and he wound up with an injury to his face.

“According to the police narrative we received from sources Sanchez was not cooperative with police when they first arrived on scene. Another man listed as the victim in the police report told police he was delivering food when Sanchez told him he needed to move and couldn’t park where he was,” the report from Ganote states.

“That man told police Sanchez started threatening and following him and then attacked him. The man said he first tried to pepper spray Sanchez but it didn’t work. He said it was at that that time he defended himself with a knife. Police noted the man had a significant injury to his face. Sanchez was taken to the hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery. It is important to note that Sanchez has not been interviewed yet!”

While the charges may be misdemeanors and there is still the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, Sanchez's bosses at FOX Sports don't have to hold him to the same standard.

Even if Sanchez recovers quickly and never steps foot inside of a jail, it seems far more likely that Sanchez has called his last down for FOX Sports for a good, long while.
