Devin Bush Makes Noise at Chicago Bears Practice

One of the biggest standouts based on what I’ve seen from those covering Chicago Bears training camp today, August 4th, is Devin Bush. 

It’s been discussed in a previous Athlon Sports article that Bush was essentially brought in to replace Tremaine Edmunds in Chicago. Following the season that Bush had with the Cleveland Browns, where he recorded 125 tackles and three interceptions, expectations are high. 

Up to this point, it seems as if Bush has been living up to them. Despite having a tough task ahead to take on Caleb Williams and this Bears offense, Bush has been making plays regardless.

Key Devin Bush Chicago Bears August 4th Practice Reports 

Starting with Brad Biggs on X, one of his notes was, “Tough for CW18 to run away from Devin Bush.” Considering that Williams is a very good mobile quarterback, that says a lot more about Bush in a positive light than it does for Williams.

That by itself wouldn’t be the biggest deal, but there’s another report from Greg Braggs Jr., who posted this on X:

“Devin Bush comes flying into the backfield, flushes Caleb out of the pocket to force a throwaway. 2nd down coming up.”

The last note that comes with a bit of good and bad for the Bears is from Adam Jahns on X:

“Caleb Williams threw into the end zone on the final play to 'win' the game. WR Luther Burden III went up for the ball in traffic but was drilled by LB Devin Bush. No catch. D wins. Burden stayed down for a little bit before walking off.”

The good part about it is that Bush was able to break up the pass against a very talented wide receiver in Burden. Now, of course, it’s not great that Burden wasn’t able to get up right away, as this is just practice after all. However, it doesn’t seem as if the hit was anything more than that. 

Especially given the practice situation that Jahns noted, this has to be seen as a very good play out of Bush. 

With Bush not having the most proven production in years past heading into 2026, there were certainly questions about what 2026 would be like. So far, Bush has given Bears fans a reason to feel great about the move.
