Devin Funchess Comments On His New Position And Team

The Detroit Lions need a lot of help after finishing the 2021 season at 3-13-1.

There was reason to celebrate when the team finally broke their winless streak after almost a year.

But of their three victories last season, only one is worth commending.

You have to give it to Dan Campbell‘s crew when they convincingly defeated the Arizona Cardinals in Week 15 at home.

However, their first win was a last-second attempt against the Minnesota Vikings who were covering the deeper part of the end zone.

Meanwhile, their win over the Green Bay Packers to close the season is subject to scrutiny because reigning MVP Aaron Rodgers did not play much in that game.

Therefore, they need to bring in more talent to widen Jared Goff‘s options on offense.

Enter a wide receiver who calls The Motor City home.

Devin Funchess is the latest addition to the Lions and they will be moving him to tight end.

The transition makes sense because the team has a decent receiving corps led by Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark Jr., and rookie Jameson Williams.

Instead, the team would like to use him as an extra blocker and occasional pass catcher.

The Lions will be Funchess’ fourth team in seven years.

It might also be the franchise that is closest to his heart.

Funchess Loves To Be Back Home

It was at the University of Michigan where he proved to belong in the NFL.

In his last two years with the Wolverines, Funchess finished with 1,481 yards and ten touchdowns.

In the NFL, his best year came in 2017 when he had 840 yards and eight touchdowns with the Carolina Panthers.

This time, playing at home might help him play more inspired football.
