Devin Singletary Focused on Helping Giants Win

New York Giants running back Devin Singletary plans to don jersey No. 26 with his new team, the number he's worn throughout his career.

Other than that, don't expect Singletary to try to replicate the career that the guy before him who wore that number, Saquon Barkley, had with the Giants.

"Saquon is great. Everyone knows that," Singletary said during an introductory conference call with the Giants media on Thursday. "What it really comes down to, me just being me, ready to help the team win any way that I can. That's what I'm looking forward to."

To expect Singletary, who has led every team he's been on in rushing yardage but who has never cracked the 1,000-yard mark, to be Saquon 2.0 wouldn't be fair, not with the Giants likely gravitating toward more of a committee approach at the running back position. 

And if that's indeed what he's asked to do, that's just fine with Singletary.

"We haven't spoken much on that," he said when asked if his role would be part of a committee or as a bellcow. "Wwhatever I need to do to help the team to win, that's what I'm here for. If that's being the lead back, if that's being committee, whatever it may be, as long as I'm helping the team win, I'm cool with that."

Singletary described himself as being "smart and dependable" and a guy who will show up for work every day "with great energy."

"I feel like I can do it all, to be honest," he said when asked what kind of runner he is. "Whatever needs to be done, I feel like I've been blessed with the ability to do it all. That's the best way I can sum it up."

Singletary, who was with Giants head coach in Buffalo when Daboll was the offensive coordinator, said he's grown significantly throughout the years.

"Mentally, just knowing the game. I've got a lot of experience," he said. "I think I've grown, and I'm still growing. That's the name of the game – keep finding ways to get better, keep finding ways to improve. I think I've grown a lot."

He's excited to continue his growth as a Giant.

"I’m looking forward to a great opportunity here and ready to get to work," he said.
