Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is under fire again, this time not just from fans, but from former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
After Miami’s tough 29–27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Tagovailoa made headlines for blaming his teammates during his postgame interview. He said some players were showing up late or missing player-only meetings, pointing to a lack of accountability inside the locker room.
“I think it starts with leadership,” Tua said. “We have guys showing up late to player-only meetings, guys not showing up at all. There’s a lot that goes into that, and it starts with the little things like that.”
The Dolphins are now 1–5 on the season The loss against Los Angeles saw Tagovailoa throw three costly interceptions, including one that set up the Chargers’ game-winning field goal in the final seconds.
Fans reacted swiftly online, criticizing the quarterback for “airing out the team’s dirty laundry” and questioning his leadership. But it was Dez Bryant’s fiery response on X that drew even more attention to Miami’s growing drama.
Bryant reposted Tagovailoa’s remarks and did not hold back. In a direct message to the Dolphins, he urged them to bench him and start rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers.
“I want to know what part of this he’s going to take accountability for,” Bryant wrote. “Tua threw three picks today…Tua is third in the NFL with the most interceptions thrown by a quarterback.. If you haven't said this privately first..then in the media..I don't respect it. And since we are on the topic of respect..I guarantee a lot of the players don't respect Tua. Tua points the finger and literally has four pointing back at him..If you want to win..put Ewers in!”

Ewers, a seventh-round draft pick, has yet to take a snap in a regular-season game. But the young quarterback has reportedly shown promise in practice, and with Miami’s season slipping away, some fans are wondering if it’s time for a change under center.
Tagovailoa’s leadership has come under increasing scrutiny after the Dolphins’ repeated late-game collapses. While some teammates and head coach Mike McDaniel defended his intentions, the quarterback’s choice to go public with locker room issues left others uneasy.
Still, fans online interpreted Tagovailoa’s comments as deflecting blame at a time when the quarterback himself has struggled to perform consistently. He has thrown for 1,213 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions, and costly mistakes in key moments have hurt Miami’s chances.
The rookie quarterback has been patiently learning behind Tagovailoa, and while he lacks NFL experience, his strong arm and poise in college made him a standout prospect. Other teams, like the New York Giants with rookie Jaxson Dart, have seen positive results after midseason quarterback changes.
Whether McDaniel will consider such a bold move remains uncertain, but the noise around Tagovailoa’s leadership isn’t going away soon. Bryant’s comments have amplified the pressure, forcing the Dolphins to evaluate not only their starting quarterback but also the tone of their locker room.
For now, all eyes are on Miami’s upcoming Week 7 matchup against the Cleveland Browns, where Tagovailoa will have another chance to prove himself or potentially give Ewers the opening he needs.
