Did Cam Jordan give Tom Brady bulletin-board material with GOAT talk?

The New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will square off for the third time this season in Sunday’s divisional-round showdown, and it looks like Cameron Jordan may have missed the memo warning against poking Tom Brady ahead of a playoff matchup.

In an interview this week with Steve Smith at NFL Network, Jordan questioned how Brady is almost universally touted as the greatest NFL quarterback of all time. Instead, Jordan believes his quarterback, Drew Brees, ought to be considered the GOAT. Jordan said:

“When you say GOAT, like one of the GOATs. He’s probably No. 2 on the list behind the quarterback who has 80,000 passing yards [Drew Brees]. There’s probably another quarterback right there. He’s not. Man, neutralize Tom Brady? You don’t have to really worry about him escaping the pocket, at this point, [like] a lot of other quarterbacks do in this league.”

Jordan’s provocative comments — which were essentially the same thing he said following the Saints’ Week 9 win over the Buccaneers — follow his smack talk captured by cameras during the Saints-Bucs showdown in Week 1 when Brady threw three picks in a 34-23 loss to open up his Tampa tenure.

“He’s a week away from a little arthritis, baby,” Jordan quipped.

Back to Jordan’s comments this week. Evidence that it’s unwise to talk smack about Brady ahead of a playoff showdown was provided before the Bucs’ wild-card round victory over the Washington Football Team.

Washington star defensive lineman Chase Young was caught on camera taunting Brady after WFT won its season finale, saying, “Tom Brady, I’m coming. I want Tom. I want Tom.”

Brady took the high road ahead of the wild-card matchup when asked about Young’s chatter, but it merits noting that Young was relegated to non-factor status in WFT’s 31-23 loss to Tampa.

It will be interesting to see if Brady — who is enjoying the buildup to his showdown with Brees — proves savvy enough not to take Jordan’s bait in the same way he avoided biting on Young’s talk. Odds are he will.

Further, it also remains to be seen whether Jordan’s GOAT chatter will have the same inconsequential impact Young’s comments had on Brady last week.
