Did Gruden violate tampering policy with Sherman comments?
Could Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden get punished by the NFL for his comments to Richard Sherman? Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Did Raiders HC Jon Gruden violate NFL's anti-tampering policy with comments to Richard Sherman?

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden doesn't seem to care about the NFL's anti-tampering policy.

Gruden recently joined Richard Sherman on "The Chris Collinsworth Podcast" on Tuesday and discussed how the San Francisco 49ers cornerback would be a great fit in the Raiders' defense, possibly violating the NFL's anti-tampering policy in the process.

A portion of the league's anti-tampering policy reads:

“Any public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media, is a violation of this Anti-Tampering Policy."

Here is what Gruden said on the podcast:

"Richard Sherman, if you are a free agent, which there is a rumor you are, we are looking for an alpha presence in our secondary. Somebody that could play this Hawk 3-press technique with the read step. If you're available and interested, maybe you and I can get together at some point off-air," Gruden said.

Sherman appears to be considering the idea, too, telling Gruden: "There is a conversation to be had, for sure."

The Stanford product has an obvious connection to Las Vegas. The Raiders recently hired former Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Gus Bradley as their next DC. He coached Sherman in 2012 while the 32-year-old was still in Seattle.

Sherman is unlikely to re-sign with the 49ers. In three seasons with the franchise, he recorded four interceptions, one fumble recovery, one sack, 116 tackles and six tackles for a loss.

It's unclear which other teams might be interested in signing the five-time Pro Bowler.
