Will Campbell had been off to a great start to the 2026 season. Then the New England Patriots‘ left tackle faced the Buffalo Bills pass rusher, Greg Rousseau.
Week 4’s divisional matchup was Campbell’s worst performance of the season. Campbell let up half a dozen pressures and a couple of quarterback hits.
One factor that explains this is that Buffalo put their long-armed pass rusher over Campbell and his shorter-than-usual 32 5/8-inch arms. While Campbell was able to hold his own the first three weeks of the season, Greg Rousseau and his 34 3/8-inch arms made life hell for Will Campbell on Sunday.
Maxx Crosby is a one-man wrecking crew for the Las Vegas Raiders defensive front and, similar to Rousseau, lines up predominantly on the right side of the formation. But Patriots insider Phil Perry questions whether, after seeing Rousseau’s effectiveness last week, Las Vegas will do the same.
“Maxx Crosby is another one of these pass rushers, like Greg Rousseau typically is for Buffalo, where they align this guy on the right side almost exclusively,” said Perry. “Now, will they do what Buffalo did, which is take the long-armed guy and put him on Will Campbell?”
When the two teams met in Foxborough in Week 1 last season, Maxx Crosby recorded two tackles (one solo), one sack, and a pass defended. He also pressured quarterback Drake Maye into a key third-quarter interception that shifted momentum back to Las Vegas.
This time around, Crosby, who played all 71 defensive snaps in last year’s game, will look to wreak havoc once again on Maye and the offense. Look for offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and offensive line coach Doug Marrone to dial up creative protection schemes on Sunday to combat the Raiders’ superstar pass rusher and help out their left tackle.
