Pittsburgh Steelers GM Omar Khan ending up making waves this offseason by trading a second-round pick to the Seahawks for D.K. Metcalf, who later agreed to a four-year, $132 million contract with his new team.
Metcalf was immediately slotted in as Pittsburgh’s lead receiver, of course ... especially in the wake of the trade that moved George Pickens to the Cowboys.
On Tuesday the team released its first depth chart of the summer ... and D.K. is right where you would expect him to be.
Check out the depth chart for the start of the 2025 season, though, and look at what might be developing in the lineup behind Metcalf.
It what could be a significant development ...
Metcalf and Calvin Austin II are as expected noted as the two starters in the position group.
But after that?
Here comes Scotty Miller, who has at least for the moment leapfrogged over 2024 third-round pick Roman Wilson ... as Wilson is now listed as a second-string receiver alongside veteran Robert Woods.
The building of the 53-man roster is still in the formative stages, of course. And it does matter that the Steelers will still need a receiver to team up with and support Metcalf.
But in the end? National websites across the board ranked the Metcalf move as one of the top decisions of the offseason (though not everybody loves the contract cost) ... and when the real football bullets start flying, QB Aaron Rodgers throwing to the freakishly large and talented Metcalf might be the determining factor as to whether this is again a playoff team.
Will being paired with veteran quarterback Rodgers be enough for the Steelers to have a great postseason run under coach Mike Tomlin? Will Austin and Miller and the rest be good enough to help?
Or is yet another receiver trade in the offing, as there are rumors linking the Steelers to unhappy Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin?
In any event, we bet Metcalf won't have a repeat of last years sub-par touchdown total as he'll be by far the featured guy for the Steelers in what is hoped will be a productive 2025.
