Do NFL players have concerns about potential Tom Brady, Fox conflict-of-interest issue?

Conversations about whether or not Las Vegas Raiders minority owner Tom Brady serving as Fox's lead in-game analyst gives the Raiders unfair advantages resurfaced after Brady was spotted wearing a headset in Las Vegas' coaching booth during the club's Week 2 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

For a piece published Friday, NJ Advance Media for NJ.com reporters interviewed more than a dozen NFL players regarding their feelings on the Brady conflict-of-interest storyline that seemingly isn't going anywhere.

"Most of the players NJ Advance Media interviewed for this story don’t have major concerns with the current arrangement or with Brady continuing in his role," the writers shared.

Giants safety offers advice to players worried about Tom Brady

"Just don’t (expletive) tell him (expletive)," New York Giants safety Tyler Nubin said about player interactions with Brady. "That’s all you’ve got to do."

Nubin was referencing how Brady is now permitted to virtually participate in production meetings with players and coaches and speak with players and coaches on the field ahead of a game he calls for Fox. Veteran New York Jets wide receiver Allen Lazard is among the players who spoke with NJ Advance Media and suggested that what is and isn't said during those production meetings has been overblown by some media members.

"I don’t think anyone is giving any sort of answer that would alter the game like that," Lazard said about the pregame chats. "Because if that was the case, it wouldn’t take Tom Brady for that to be a thing. If you’re telling them you’re running a reverse pass on the first play of the game, it doesn’t matter if it’s Tom Brady or anyone else. It’s a problem."

Giants safety Jevon Holland added that he is "not telling reporters...much anything" in any setting, let alone a Fox production meeting. However, Giants receiver Darius Slayton admitted he can "see how somebody could get that angle" regarding the potential for a conflict of interest.

Do players think Tom Brady should pick between team ownership and broadcasting?

Some think it's a matter of time before enough NFL owners essentially force Brady to pick a lane and either work for Fox or "run" the Raiders.

"I’m not going to say they should or shouldn’t," Giants safety Dane Belton said about the NFL giving Brady some kind of ultimatum. "But I can definitely see that happening because so many people have their own opinions about things, and I think the NFL wants to keep the integrity of the game true and honest. So yeah, I think it could definitely come up."

One thing nobody can dispute is that Brady working for Fox has become a significant talking point for the second straight season. Thus, one could say he is thus far earning the money attached to the massive contract he received from the network several years ago.
