Do the Browns have a QB controversy?

There is no argument that Deshaun Watson isn't the Browns' QB1, but the team may have a quarterback controversy brewing in the battle to be his backup.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Cleveland's fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, had himself another impressive showing in the team's second preseason game.

He has now completed 17-of-21 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns while adding 47 rushing yards in the preseason.

Thompson-Robinson is, however, listed as the team's fourth-string quarterback behind Joshua Dobbs and Kellen Mond.

If the 23-year-old continues playing the way he has, it will come as no surprise if he begins the 2023 season as the Browns' QB2. But it will start with him getting snaps with the second and third units.

If Thompson-Robinson proves he can hang with the best with two preseason games still to go, the backup job will be his.

It is ironic, though. Cleveland has been searching for its quarterback for years, whiffing on several first rounders and finally trading a king's ransom for Watson last offseason.

Not to say Thompson-Robinson should be the Browns starter but it would be quite the story if they hit on the position in the late rounds of the draft after struggling to find the answer for many years.

There were nine quarterbacks taken before him this year's draft. It is still early, but Thompson-Robinson could be a steal in the making.
