Do the Tennessee Titans Have a Cam Ward Problem?

The Tennessee Titans’ 0-5 start has turned the development of Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward into the franchise’s central problem. Ward has completed 98 of 155 passes for 896 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in five games, while taking 10 sacks. Tennessee’s official statistics place the second-year quarterback at a 77.2 passer rating through Week 5.

Ward’s first five games have fallen short of the baseline he set as a rookie, when he started all 17 games and threw for 3,169 yards with 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions. His completion rate has risen from 59.8 percent in 2025 to 63.2 percent this season, but his yards per attempt have remained at 5.8 and Tennessee has yet to win.

Ward’s ability to steady the team has become part of the evaluation, The Sitdown w/ Malik Wright host Malik Wright said. Wright questioned whether Ward has been as good as expected and whether the quarterback has the demeanor to rally teammates, describing moments when Ward appears hotheaded under pressure.

The Titans’ Responsibility Starts above Ward

The Tennessee roster lists Ward as its active No. 1 quarterback, with Mitchell Trubisky also on the active roster. The larger task, in Wright’s view, is for the organization to create the conditions that allow a young quarterback to develop rather than forcing a judgment from a five-game stretch.

The concern reaches beyond the offense. Wright questioned whether the commitment to Ward’s success extends through Tennessee’s ownership, framing the quarterback’s uneven start as an organizational test as much as an individual one.

The Titans play their next game on October 18. Tennessee’s response must begin with the support around Ward, while the quarterback works to turn a difficult opening stretch into evidence that his early struggles are not his ceiling. The NFL schedule lists Tennessee’s Week 6 game for that date.
