Do We Need an Offense or Defense-Minded Coach?
The Miami Dolphins, under Stephen Ross, have wavered from defensive coaches like Brian Flores to offensive coaches like Mike McDaniel.
My opinion on this, without going through the litany of Ross’s coaching decisions, is Tony Sparano, Joe Philbin, Dan Campbell , Adam Gase, Brian Flores, and Mike McDaniel.
I may have missed one or two additional failures.
Some were career offensive-minded coaches, some were defensive-minded coaches, but all failed.
And the Miami Dolphins have continued to fail to win a playoff game since the year 2000.
The Miami Dolphins quarterback in the year 2000 was Jay Fiedler.
And the running back was Lamar Smith.
The Dolphins beat the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild-Card round 23-17.
Their last playoff win.
They lost the next game to the Oakland Raiders 27-0.
So, do I care what “type” of head coach we bring into our organization?
Offensive or Defensive-minded?
As a fan, I do not give a crap.
Just please develop a winning team, and a team that can go to the playoffs and compete.
And a team that we can be proud of and look forward to cheering for every game.
I simply hope that our newly hired GM, Jon-Eric Sullivan, chooses the right guy for the job.
Please get it right, because we fans are tired of the same old stuff we have been watching for way too many years.
I do realize that the buildup to a winning franchise will take several years, I get it, and that the constraints left by former GM Chris Grier and Coach Mike McDaniel may take a while to fix.
But, Mr. Ross, thank you for tearing up our front office in a way that finally makes sense.
