Does Buccaneers OC agree with Baker Mayfield about fiery 'killer instinct' comments?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield felt his offense lacked a "killer instinct" after losing 28-23 at home to the New England Patriots last Sunday, dropping them to 6-3.

Head coach Todd Bowles agreed with Mayfield, and rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka later suggested the signal-caller's comments helped those in the locker room take "great accountability" regarding what went wrong in Week 10.

While speaking with reporters on Thursday, first-year Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard was asked about Mayfield's fiery take.

Does Josh Grizzard agree with Baker Mayfield, Todd Bowles about lack of killer instinct?

"I agree with it," Grizzard directly said, per the Buccaneers' website. "I echoed everything he said on Monday as well...When he talks about the killer instinct, I'd echo that as well."

The Buccaneers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead over the Patriots, but New England then built a 21-10 lead before Tampa Bay scored its second touchdown of the game in the third quarter. Grizzard indicated that the Buccaneers were lacking energy after winning six of eight games leading up to their Week 9 bye.

Buccaneers will need to be better against top-tier opponents

"We're coming off a bye week, guys got time off, we talk about starting fast, we go down there and get seven points — and then you go down there on the second drive and it sputters out," Grizzard continued. "That's, I think, where the killer instinct needs to come in — that seven [points] is not enough, especially some of these high-powered offenses. It's got to be for 60 minutes, and if it takes more than that, it takes more than that. You can't let off just because you got seven [points] on the first drive."

The bad news for Grizzard and Co. is that injured wide receivers Mike Evans (broken clavicle) and Jalen McMillan (neck) likely aren't returning anytime soon. As of Friday morning, it was unclear if running back Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder injuries) and wideout Chris Godwin (fibula) will be able to play when Tampa Bay faces the Buffalo Bills (6-3) this Sunday.

On Friday, ESPN BET had the Bucs as 6.5-point road underdogs against the Bills.
