Does Tom Brady have one more run in him?

Tom Brady was outplayed by Mitchell Trubisky on Sunday in Tampa Bay's 20-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During the course of the came, Brady again let his frustration out on the sideline. This time it was his offensive line drawing his ire.

The statistics help indicate why the legendary quarterback is so frustrated. Per Pro Football Focus, Brady has his worst grade (77.8) since the 2009 season (75.4). Of course, Brady went on to have a decade's worth of incredible seasons afterward. At 45, however, he doesn't have a decade remaining in his career.

Regarding Brady's most recent sideline outburst, his gripe shouldn't necessarily be with his offensive line. PFF data reveals Brady has been under pressure on fewer of his dropbacks this season (18.3 percent) than during the 2020 (23.7 percent) and 2021 (20.6 percent) campaigns.

A declining Brady is still better than half of the quarterbacks playing the position in 2022. Even with a rough 3-3 start, the Buccaneers are primed to win a weak NFC South and host at least one playoff game this postseason. Give Brady a shot and he may just run with it. Or maybe not.

Brady's attempts per game this season (41.9) are comparable to his average a year ago (42.3) yet he's averaging nearly 40 yards less per game. His touchdown and interception rates are the lowest of his career, which implies a QB not taking as many chances as he once did.

Per data from PFF, Brady's attempts of 20 or more yards downfield have decreased each season he's been in Tampa Bay. After 15.9 percent of his throws were that depth in 2020, it dropped to 10.9 percent last season and is even lower at 9.7 percent this year.

During the past two seasons, Brady completed 39.6 percent of his deep passes for an average of 12.8 yards per attempt. Of those throws, 11.6 percent resulted in touchdowns. In his limited opportunities in 2022, he hasn't given offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich much reason to want to call more of those shot plays. Of his 24 attempts, he's only completing 33.3 percent while averaging 10.3 yards an attempt. His touchdown rate on those throws is just 4.2 percent. Not only is Brady taking fewer attempts in 2022, but he's also doing less with them.

People have tried to bury Brady before. With over half of the season remaining, there's time for the Buccaneers to right the ship. Whether they do will depend on their leader regaining his form.
