Dolphins Add Former First-Round Pick Amid Host of Injuries
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins signed offensive lineman Germain Ifedi on Sunday morning after five different offensive linemen worked out in Miami on Saturday. The Dolphins announced this weekend that starting right tackle Austin Jackson would be out for some time, but hoped he'd be ready for the regular season.

However, injuries have been a theme at Dolphins training camp in 2025. The team has already signed multiple cornerbacks after losing three members of the secondary to injury in the first week of camp.

Miami's starting center, Aaron Brewer, has missed practice time lately due to a soft tissue injury; however, head coach Mike McDaniel said he should be back sooner rather than later.

With two of their five starting offensive lineman out for the moment, the Dolphins worked out five more linemen Saturday, and signed the veteran, Ifedi, on Sunday.

The former first-round pick was drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and played his first four seasons in Seattle. Then he spent two years with the Chicago Bears, a year with the Atlanta Falcons, and a year with the Cleveland Browns.

Ifedi has played in 117 games across his eight years of NFL experience with 90 starts. He has experience at right and left tackle, as well as right guard. In 2024, Ifedi played in 15 games with seven starts. The veteran committed five penalties, gave up five quarterback hits, 28 pressures, and four sacks throughout the season.

Ifedi brings much-needed depth to the Dolphins' offensive line and a strong veteran presence. With Brewer and Jackson out currently, two of the three starters left for Miami had a year or less of experience in the NFL. Rookie Jonah Savaiinaea is expected to start at right guard and hasn't taken a snap in the NFL, and second-year left tackle Patrick Paul, despite having a very strong camp, has only one year of experience.

With the signing on Ifedi , the Dolphins waived quarterback Brett Gabbert, and also activated safety Ifeatu Melifonwu off the non-football injury list.
