Dolphins Add Rookie Quarterback to Active Roster
Amid all of the uncertainty regarding who the Miami Dolphins’ starting quarterback of the future will be, they have decided to add yet another rookie signal-caller to the fold ahead of their season finale versus the New England Patriots.
On Thursday, Miami officially announced that it has signed first-year player Cam Miller to the active roster off the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad. Miller was a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft after he spent five seasons honing his game at the collegiate level at North Dakota State University. In the 2024 season, his swan song with the Bison, he threw for 33 touchdowns and only four interceptions while completing 73.5 percent of his passes.
The Raiders never gave Miller any opportunities to showcase his skills this season, despite their starting quarterback, Geno Smith, leading the league with 17 interceptions. He didn’t so much as sniff the field for Las Vegas before the Dolphins poached him.
While folks shouldn’t expect him to see the field at all for Miami on Sunday, either, the team has nothing to lose by adding him and could potentially have a whole lot to gain. After all, perhaps the greatest football player who’s ever stepped on an NFL field has given his seal of approval on Miller.
Former New England Patriots quarterback and current Raiders minority owner Tom Brady scouted Miller before Las Vegas selected him with one of its draft picks. The fact that Brady took a liking to him suggests that he has the wherewithal to be an effective quarterback at the highest level.
Whether or not Miller will actually stick around in Miami for a significant period of time remains to be seen. Still, it’s hard to criticize the Dolphins’ low-risk, high-reward move to take a flier on the youngster.
