The Miami Dolphins Release Jason Sanders
The Miami Dolphins are releasing kicker Jason Sanders.
The move will open up $3.9 million in salary cap space for the team.
Sanders missed all of the 2025 season with a hip injury he suffered in late August.
Between 2018 and 2024, Sanders was one of the most reliable kickers in all of the NFL and a key part of the Miami Dolphins organization.
With 2020 being his best season, he was named first-team All-Pro.
Sanders had an 84.6% field goal percentage during his years in Miami, and a 99.6% on extra points.
He scored 820 total points as a member of the Dolphins over this time-frame.
After the two sides could not agree on a contract, the Dolphins now are expected to release kicker Jason Sanders, per source. Sanders leaves Miami with a streak of 27 straight made field goals, and 9-of-9 on his last 50+-yard field goals. pic.twitter.com/dowhkjfi48

The main reason Miami is able to make this move is Riley Patterson‘s play last year in Sanders’ absence.
Patterson was 27 for 29 on field goals for a whopping 93.1% and 34 for 25 on extra points for 97.1%.
He scored 115 points for the Dolphins last season and was clutch in many big moments, making many big kicks.
Paterson will be a free agent this offseason, but it is expected that Miami will look to retain him at a fraction of the cost that Sanders was scheduled to make.
