Dolphins Assistant GM Up for Vikings GM Position
When Jon-Eric Sullivan was hired as the Dolphins’ general manager, one of his first hires was Kyle Smith as assistant general manager.
After being on the job for only a few months, Smith is now a candidate for the open Vikings general manager position.
The Vikings moved on from their general manager after this April’s draft, which is a bit unusual, but they wanted to keep front office continuity through the draft before making the change.
Per Tom Pelissero, Smith, along with Ray Agnew from Detroit, and Broncos assistant GM Reed Burckhardt, are three people up for the open GM role.
No word on whether there will be other candidates who will interview for the position.
The Vikings requested interviews with Lions assistant GM Ray Agnew, Broncos assistant GM Reed Burckhardt and Dolphins assistant GM Kyle Smith for their general manager job, sources say.
Minnesota’s initial round of virtual interviews is underway and the list has now expanded.

Smith had been with the Atlanta Falcons since 2021. From 2021 to 2022, he was the Vice President of Player Personnel.
From 2023-2025, he was the Assistant General Manager with the Falcons before joining the Dolphins in January of 2026.
He got his break in the NFL in Washington beginning in 2010. As a scouting intern, then as a scout, and then as the Director of College Personnel.
In 2020, with Washington, he served as Vice President of Player Personnel before joining the Atlanta Falcons.
Smith is 41 years old, and his father is AJ Smith, the former general manager of the San Diego Chargers, who acquired Phillip Rivers for the Chargers when he was general manager.
Even though he wasn’t the general manager of the Falcons, many considered him the brains of the operation and the man who played a key role in drafting many of the Falcons’ key players in recent years.
