Dolphins breakout RB dealing with knee injury

The fastest offense in the NFL may have just hit a speed bump.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel announced on Monday that running back De'Von Achane is being evaluated for a knee injury.

Per ESPN's Dolphins writer Marcel Louis-Jacques, McDaniel said he won't speculate on Achane's status going forward.

"When I don't know, I literally don't spend any time forecasting either way," McDaniel said. "I find it trivial to even forecast until I get all the information. So I really don't know."

If there is any offense prepared to withstand the loss of a skilled player it is Miami's. The unit is off to a historic start, passing the "Greatest Show on Turf," for the most yards (2,568) through five weeks of a season, with Achane providing his fair share of them.

Despite touching the ball just once in the first two weeks of the season, Achane exploded onto the NFL scene with 203 rushing yards and four total touchdowns in Miami's 70-20 beatdown of the Denver Broncos on Sept. 24. Before exiting Week 5's contest with the New York Giants in the fourth quarter, he racked up another 151 yards on the ground and another touchdown.

But while Achane makes three appearances in the top 10 plays on NFL Next Gen Stat's fastest ballcarrier category, he isn't the only Dolphin on the list.

Tyreek Hill also has three plays in the top 10, hitting 22.01 miles-per-hour on his 64-yard touchdown against the Giants to overtake Achane for fastest ball carrier this season with fellow running back Raheem Mostert making an appearance at five.

Outside of these speedsters, the Dolphins also have wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.

His role has reduced somewhat this season with the ridiculous performances of his teammates, but the Alabama product eclipsed 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons and is still averaging 14.4 yards on his 17 receptions so far in 2023.

With the lowly Panthers and Patriots sandwiched around a date with the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles, the Dolphins scoring machine should keep running smoothly.
