Dolphins Bring Back WR AJ Henning to Practice Squad

The Miami Dolphins continue to make adjustments to their practice squad as they prepare for their Week 3 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Miami announced Thursday that it has signed wide receiver AJ Henning to the practice squad while releasing long snapper Luke Basso from the practice squad.

For Henning, the move represents a return to familiar surroundings.

The 5-foot-10, 192-pound wide receiver originally entered the NFL with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent and has previous experience in Miami’s system. Henning played his final two college seasons at Northwestern, appearing in 24 games with 19 starts.

During those two seasons, Henning caught 104 passes for 1,021 yards and eight touchdowns. He also contributed as a runner, carrying the ball 32 times for 118 yards and another touchdown.

Henning’s versatility extends beyond the offensive side of the football.

At Northwestern, he returned 15 kickoffs for 330 yards, averaging 22 yards per return, and handled 22 punt returns for 205 yards. That experience could give Miami another developmental option who can contribute in multiple areas during practice.

The Dolphins are familiar with what Henning brings to the table, which could make his transition back onto the practice squad relatively seamless.

Miami also released Basso, who had only recently joined the practice squad as the Dolphins shuffled their depth at long snapper.
