Dolphins Can Still Get Help for Malik Willis
When Jon-Eric Sullivan and Jeff Hafley took over the Dolphins back in January, we knew that they had a goal of getting the team back into a healthy salary cap situation.
And with that, there would be some hard pills to swallow when it came to the departures of some quality veteran players.
Two of those departures came in the form of the team’s two best wide receivers in Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill.
While moving on from both Hill and Waddle was necessary to set up the team with a clean bill of financial health, it still left the offense with a massive hole at the wideout position.
That hole is exaggerated after the team made its biggest signing of the offseason in quarterback Malik Willis.
Now, heading into training camp, Willis is staring down the possibility that his top targets will be Malik Washington and Jalen Tolbert.
While both are more than serviceable and there is also the chance that one of the rookies that were selected in April’s draft, like Kevin Coleman Jr., Caleb Douglas, or Chris Bell, breaks out and has a phenomenal rookie season, the more likely option is that the Dolphins do not currently have a number one option on the roster right now.
Or, even a number two option at the position for that matter.
Thankfully, much like Miami can add Rasul Douglas to shore up the secondary, there are some options at receiver who can help Miami get through the season and give the team a better opportunity to properly judge Malik Willis.
Whether it is Stefon Diggs, Deebo, Curtis Samuel, or even Jahan Dotson, there are plenty of options available to give this offense a boost.
There are also some younger, familiar options like Skyy Moore and former Dolphin D’Wayne Eskridge if Miami wants some competition at the bottom of the roster.
Jeff Hafley has preached all spring and summer long about this roster needing more competition.
What better way is there to add some juice to the offense and provide more clarity to the evaluation of Malik Willis than to bring in a veteran receiver such as one of the names above?
It can only bring more competition to the team along with some maturity and experience.
That would be sorely needed for a team that lacks those qualities heading into year one of a rebuild.
