With so many holes to fill across their roster, the Miami Dolphins are a bit of a wildcard in Round One of the 2025 NFL Draft. They're in an ideal position to draft the best player available, but they could easily decide to fill a need at safety, defensive tackle, or the offensive line.
The latest mock draft from Kyle Stackpole of CBS has Miami doing the former, bypassing their needs and opting for one of the top EDGE rushers in this year's class. He has the Dolphins selecting Texas A&M's Shemar Stewart at pick No. 13 in the First Round.
Stewart, 6‑foot‑5 and 267 pounds, is among the most athletic players in the draft class. At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, he posted a 40‑inch vertical (No. 2 among defensive linemen), a 10‑foot‑11 broad jump (No. 1 among defensive linemen), and a 4.59‑second 40‑yard dash (No. 4 among defensive linemen).
Despite his impressive physical tools, Stewart's on-field production never matched his athleticism in college. He recorded only 65 total tackles and 4.5 sacks in three seasons at Texas A&M, but there's reason to believe his best days are ahead.
Without the production and refinement of others in this class, Stewart will need the right situation to reach his full potential at the next level. He requires veteran leadership and an organization willing to be patient.
Learning from pass-rushers like Chop Robinson, Jaelan Phillips, and Bradley Chubb would be ideal for Stewart's development. However, it's unclear whether General Manager Chris Grier and Head Coach Mike McDaniel have the job security to overlook their more pressing needs.
