Dolphins Expected to Make Strange Free Agent Decision After Jalen Ramsey Trade

The Miami Dolphins made some moves to end June and kick off July, as they finally traded away Jalen Ramsey, their All-Pro cornerback. Jonnu Smith was also included in the deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Miami's trade opened two holes at cornerback and tight end. They swung a wild deal for retired tight end Darren Waller, leaving their cornerback room as the only area needed to address.

But, according to a report from Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald, the Dolphins are planning to be stingy with their money. Despite losing Ramsey, they aren't expected to be more aggressive in the free agent market.

"With at least one veteran cornerback of interest to Miami," Jackson reported, "There has been no renewed push to offer more money this week. Miami clearly wants someone at their preferred $$$ amount."

It's all thanks to the misses at cornerback over the years. Ramsey didn't quite live up to the hype in Miami, and he's far from the only cornerback to struggle in Miami after a significant investment.

Xavien Howard and Byron Jones were both major disappointments in Miami. Combined with this Ramsey disaster, the Dolphins' front office no longer intends to open the wallet for a top cornerback.

The Dolphins won't open the wallet for a cornerback, nor will they spend lavishly on the position. It's a glaring need for the team, especially after trading Ramsey, yet they aren't planning to address it.

This is a worrying report from Jackson. While the Dolphins are looking to add a cornerback, they aren't pursuing an addition aggressively. Despite the dire need, the Dolphins aren't planning to invest money in a free agent cornerback this offseason.
