Dolphins Formally Reveal Intentions Regarding Tight End

Two moves in particular that the Miami Dolphins have made since the unofficial start of free agency are getting lots of attention.

Not only did they make a decision a lot of folks saw coming in releasing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but the Dolphins also traded the crown jewel of the return from the Jonnu Smith trade last year, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. They got pennies on the dollar (as expected) in exchange for a player of Fitzpatrick’s caliber, as the Dolphins netted just a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft from the New York Jets in return.

But seemingly lost in all the hubbub about Tagovailoa’s and Fitzpatrick’s departures is that Miami is bringing back a familiar face. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported earlier in the week that the Dolphins are set to sign tight end Greg Dulcich to a one-year, $3.25 million deal, and Miami formally revealed its intentions to do just that on Wednesday via an X post.

Dulcich’s contract could age to be one of the most cost-effective in the league, as he’s projected to play an important role in Miami’s offensive attack in 2026.

A third-round pick back in the 2022 NFL Draft, Dulcich was a steady source of offense for the Dolphins during the tail end of the 2025 season. He totaled 40-plus receiving yards in four of Miami’s last five games of the campaign, a stretch highlighted by a season-high 58-yard performance in a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

There’s nothing surprising about the Dolphins bringing back Dulcich (especially at such a low price point) after the late-season breakout he enjoyed, especially with Darren Waller‘s future in Miami uncertain. Waller unretired to play with the Dolphins last season, and while he looked great at times, his campaign was a letdown overall. A pectoral injury ultimately limited him to just nine games played and three starts.
