It was reported by ESPN NFL Nation Packers reporter Rob Demovsky and confirmed by NFL insider Adam Schefter that the Green Bay Packers and Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander could come to a resolution that keeps Alexander in Green Bay, despite recent reports that Alexander would be traded or released. The Miami Dolphins are in the market for a new star cornerback after the news that the Dolphins will be moving on from Jalen Ramsey, and Alexander has been one of the names linked to being Ramsey's replacement.

The Dolphins also made it clear that they want a veteran and experienced corner by not drafting a cornerback until the fifth round of the NFL draft. Alexander is a two-time Pro Bowler and a two-time All-Pro Second Team. He only played in seven games last year due to a PCL injury in his right knee, but when he is healthy, he is widely regarded as one of the top corners in the league.
He would have been the perfect shutdown corner to replace Ramsey, but with the news that he could end up staying in Green Bay, the Dolphins will have to look elsewhere. The remaining free agency pool is mainly guys past their primes or young, unproven guys, however, there is one name that stands out in the free agency class.
Asante Samuel Jr., who played out his rookie contract with the Los Angeles Chargers, was a young, bright spot on the Chargers and maybe their best corner for the past few seasons. A neck and shoulder injury kept him out of the majority of last season, but in his first three seasons, he recorded 163 tackles, six interceptions, 35 pass deflections, three tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery.
Samuel is 25 and will turn 26 early in the next season. He has played in a playoff game and has experience, but also is young enough that the Dolphins could lock him down on a long-term deal and get him during his prime. He is the only free agent target that would make sense besides taking a potential risk on former Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones.
Aside from free agency, some names like Deommodore Lenoir, Denzel Ward, and Jamel Dean are all possible trade targets. Lenoir could end up getting moved if the 49ers fully embrace the rebuild. Jamel Dean has been rumored in trade talks all offseason, and if the Dolphins call about Ward, you never know what can happen.
Regardless of whether it is via trade or free agency, the Dolphins have to bring in a cornerback. They were already thin at the position, and with the end of Jalen Ramsey's tenure in Miami getting closer every day, it becomes more and more of a priority. The Dolphins will not be able to contend with their current situation at cornerback, but the other moves they have made have shown they do want to contend.
The Dolphins have been trying to shop Ramsey for a while, so it is most likely that they have some type of plan to replace him. Now it's just time to wait and see what they have in store.
