Even though the Miami Dolphins' front office expressed interest in parting ways with cornerback Jalen Ramsey in April, concrete trade talks revolving around the three-time First-Team All-Pro have yet to materialize.
Such a move would place the Dolphins firmly in the market for an equally productive defensive back, especially as question marks continue to surround the state of the team's secondary. That's why the Dolphins were earmarked as a potential team to watch after a potential like-for-like replacement in Jaire Alexander was released from the Green Bay Packers in early June.
The franchise received some bad news on that front Wednesday afternoon, though, as Alexander opted to sign elsewhere. Alexander has reunited with quarterback Lamar Jackson, one of his college teammates at Louisville, and signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens.
He will be joining a secondary that already includes two All-Pros (cornerback Marlon Humphrey and safety Kyle Hamilton) and rookie Malaki Starks, whom the Ravens selected with a first-round pick this year. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Alexander will also be compensated $4 million, plus up to $2 million if certain incentives are met, in 2025.
Alexander, like Ramsey, is also a veteran of multiple All-Pro squads, having been named to the Second Team in both 2020 and 2022. He was named to the NFC's Pro Bowl roster in those two seasons, as well.
2025 will mark Alexander's first NFL season not wearing a Packers uniform after spending the last seven years of his career in Green Bay. He is credited with 287 tackles, 12 interceptions and 70 passes defended across 78 professional appearances.
With Alexander's move to the Ravens now official, that leaves the Dolphins with work to do if Ramsey departs from the organization before the offseason ends. As things currently stand, Kader Kohou, Storm Duck and Cam Smith are among the team's top options to start at cornerback.
