Dolphins Get Major Scare with Jaelan Phillips Saturday; Thankfully Not a Serious Injury

The Miami Dolphins got a major scare Saturday morning at training camp when Jaelan Phillips went down with an injury and limped off the field. He didn’t return to practice.

Thankfully, though, it appears he avoided a major injury.

Phillips took to social media to let everyone know he just got a bruise on his leg from a leg whip, and it was nothing serious.

Phillips is coming off two major injuries in the past two seasons. On Black Friday in 2023, at Met Life Stadium vs the NY Jets, he blew out his Achilles tendon, which cost him the remainder of the season.

He returned, and in early 2024, he tore his ACL, which cost him the rest of the 2024 season.

Before his first significant injury, Phillips was one of the fastest-rising superstars in the NFL—an elite pass rusher who was in store for a record-breaking contract.

Now, Phillips enters 2025, coming off back-to-back injuries that have derailed his career, and he is in a contract year.

Another injury, or if this season it looks like he lost a step, he won’t get that mega-deal he was so close to getting a couple of years back. If he returns to form and looks like the player he was before his injuries, he will receive a substantial pay raise, either in Miami with the Dolphins or on the open market.

With the Dolphins’ secondary in shambles, Anthony Weaver and the Dolphins are going to rely heavily on their pass rush, which includes Chop Robinson, Bradley Chubb, Phillips, Kenneth Grant, and Zach Sieler.

Miami cannot afford to lose any of those players or not get the best out of any of those players if they have any hope of making the playoffs in 2025.
