Dolphins GM Chris Grier: 'Door is shut' on trading for Texans' Deshaun Watson

The Miami Dolphins were repeatedly linked with wantaway Houston Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson throughout the summer and fall of 2021 even as Watson faced 22 lawsuits alleging acts of sexual assault and misconduct and 10 criminal complaints that still have his career on hold as of the second day of March.

After the Dolphins decided against sending assets to Houston for Watson before this past November's trade deadline, Miami general manager Chris Grier offered a public vote of confidence for signal-caller and 2020 first-round pick Tua Tagovailoa.

New Dolphins head coach and former San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel told Tagovailoa last month he is "all in" regarding their relationship, and new Miami offensive coordinator Frank Smith said last week he is "super excited" to work with Miami's current QB1.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Grier attempted to silence future talk about the Dolphins potentially trading for Watson at any point this year on Wednesday.

"The door is shut on Deshaun," Grier explained during comments.

A report shared last week claimed that "multiple teams" are willing to trade for Watson if his criminal situation is resolved even if civil cases are ongoing at the time the transaction takes place. One of those clubs may have been the Dolphins at that time, but it appears that's not the case today.
