Dolphins Hire Nathaniel Hackett to be QB Coach
The Miami Dolphins are hiring former NFL head coach and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett to be their quarterbacks coach.
This is another Green Bay Packer staff member coming over, as Hackett spent 2025 analyzing defense and statistics for the team. Hackett is infamous for his struggles as the Denver Broncos head coach in 2022, but is well-regarded for his time in Green Bay as the offensive coordinator in 2021.
With new staff comes new faces, and Hackett is the most recent addition. Darrell Bevell was highly regarded within the Dolphins’ organization, but Hackett is familiar with Hafley. They both worked on the Packers’ defense this past season.
As a head coach, Hackett was 4-11 and heavily struggled with clock management. He was unfortunately not ready to call plays and manage situations in 2022. The Broncos fired him after an embarrassing loss on Christmas Day, losing 51-14 to the Rams. He showed steady improvement as a playcaller in 2023 with the New York Jets under coach Robert Saleh. After Saleh was fired in 2024, Hackett had his play-calling duties revoked, ending his tenure as the team’s play-caller.
Hackett spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons serving as a quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was given praise during the Jaguars’ deep playoff run with Blake Bortles. It was his only stint as a position coach in the NFL before this job with the Dolphins.
Hackett was also a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Syracuse from 2010 to 2012.
Now, Hackett will help develop a potential rookie quarterback in Miami. His hands are full already with Quinn Ewers. There are rumors that the Dolphins will sign pending free agent Malik Willis, and if he comes to South Florida, he will have another familiar face in the building.
This hire is not as significant as a playcaller role, but Hackett is now responsible for helping develop the Dolphins’ quarterbacks moving forward.
