Dolphins leading rusher endorses adding star running back

Training camp is officially underway, but one of the league's biggest questions has yet to be answered.

Where will free-agent running back Dalvin Cook sign?

It has long been assumed that somewhere in the AFC East is the most likely landing spot for one of the NFL's top running backs. Cook will visit the Jets this weekend, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reported Thursday. He also has been linked to the Dolphins since his release from the Minnesota Vikings in June.

Miami's leading rusher from last season, Raheem Mostert, endorses the potential addition of Cook.

"I was in San Francisco and we brought in Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida, just to name a few guys," Mostert said, "They're all starters, they're all elite guys, and they've made unbelievable plays in their careers. Just to add someone like Dalvin would be good in the backfield,"

Miami has re-signed all its running backs from last season and drafted another one, Devon Achane of Texas A&M, in the third round. Cook, however, could take Miami's running back group to another level.

Cook is coming off his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard-plus rushing season. In 2022, Mostert rushed for 891 yards and three TDs and added 202 yards receiving. He split carries with Jeff Wilson after he was acquired in a trade with San Fransisco at last year's trade deadline.

Mostert isn't alone in his endorsement of Cook to Miami. Earlier in July, fullback Alec Ingold made it clear in an interview with NFL Radio that he was all for the move.
