Dolphins left on the outside as rest of Miami sports teams celebrate

On Monday, the Florida Panthers' victory in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final secured another 21st-century championship for a Miami-area professional sports team.

Vice City may not have matched Boston's string of titles since the turn of the new millennium, but the Panthers' first crown now gives the area six championships during that span.

The NFL's Miami Dolphins is the only Miami team in the five major sports leagues yet to win one since 2000. The Dolphins haven't even won a playoff game since Dec. 30, 2000.

MLB's Miami Marlins haven't advanced past the NLDS since 2003 (when they were the Florida Marlins), but they won their second World Series that season. The Marlins won their first World Series in 1997, just their fifth year in existence.

The Miami Heat have been one of the most consistently great NBA teams since 2000, winning all three of their Larry O'Brien trophies during that span.

Led by Hall of Fame guard Dwyane Wade, the Heat earned their first crown in 2006. Wade teamed up with LeBron James and fellow Hall of Famer Chris Bosh for four seasons, winning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013.

Since making the playoffs just twice from 2001-2019, the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs five times in a row. In 2023, they made the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in franchise history (and the first time since 1996) but lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games. Paul Maurice's group nearly choked away a 3-0 series lead in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final but defeated the Edmonton Oilers.

Inter Miami CF only joined MLS in 2020, but after finishing with the third-worst record in the league in 2023, they landed superstar Lionel Messi last July. They won the Leagues Cup two months later.
