The Miami Dolphins (7-9) finish the 2025 NFL regular season with a Week 18 matchup against the New England Patriots (13-3) at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday. Head coach Mike McDaniel's team may be out of playoff contention, but they have finished the season strong with a 5-2 record over the last seven games.
One reason for Miami's inconsistency this season has been the quarterback position. Tua Tagovailoa, who is in the second season of a four-year, $212.4 million contract, led the league in interceptions through Week 15. He was benched after a 28-15 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that officially eliminated the Dolphins from playoff contention.
In stepped first-round 2025 NFL Draft pick Quinn Ewers, who is 1-1 in his first two games as an NFL starter. He completed 20-of-30 passes for 260 yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions in his debut, a 45-21 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Last week, he led a 20-17 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers by completing 14-of-22 passes for 172 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Ewers will get the nod again in Week 18 against Drake Maye and the Pats, with journeyman Zach Wilson serving as the backup and Tagovailoa listed as the third-string QB on the latest official depth chart.
As of Thursday, there is also a new quarterback in the mix.
Miami signed quarterback Cam Miller to the active roster ahead of their regular season finale, according to Miller's representative, JL Sports.

A sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Miller was signed from the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad.
The former North Dakota State QB won two FCS national titles with the Bison in college. In 2024, he racked up 3,251 passing yards, 631 rushing yards and 45 total touchdowns in 16 games.
With Wilson set to hit free agency in 2026, Miller provides more competition in the QB room while Tagovailoa takes a back seat. The Dolphins have not yet shared how Miller will factor into the gameday roster on Sunday.
Regardless of Miller's role, the direction that Miami goes at quarterback next year will be influenced heavily by what Ewers shows on film over his three-game trial as starter. As 2026 begins, the Dolphins' QB position will be in the spotlight against the AFC East champions this weekend.
“It’d be great to end the season on a high note, for sure,” Ewers said. “I think that’s super important for everybody in this building, not only myself. But just continue to play how I’m playing, keep taking care of the football, converting on third down and scoring in the red zone.”
