Dolphins making short-sighted mistake with Tyreek Hill

All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill proved he still had some juice left in the tank in Week 2. However, this iteration of the Miami Dolphins clearly does not.

Following a lackluster four-catch, 40-yard performance mostly due to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's struggles in Week 1, Hill returned to form with seven receptions for 109 yards. It wasn't enough to salvage a win for Miami, though, who fell to 0-2 in a more competitive, but still disappointing loss to the New England Patriots.

Dolphins don't want to trade Hill, but why?

Despite Miami's formerly high-powered offense looking like a shell of what it once was, the team reportedly isn't looking to ship out the 31-year-old yet.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Saturday that while the Dolphins haven't received any calls for Hill from interested teams, the franchise has also made its plan to retain him clear.

With Hill currently in the middle of a domestic violence dispute, rival teams may not be eager to take on the extra baggage that could come with the eight-time Pro-Bowler's presence. But if he avoids further issues with the case and a receiver-needy team comes calling, Miami would be foolish to decline an offer.

Arguably the best receiver in the NFL just two years ago, the jury is still out on Hill's superstar status. His recent showing was promising, but he still needs to prove his worth after a middling 2024 campaign. Still, his talent alone should warrant interest from other teams, eventually.

The Dolphins' season is just beginning, but it's already looking like Miami's 2025 finish will be closer to their 8-9 season in 2024 than their 11-6 record in 2023. With that in mind, the franchise would be wise to capitalize on Hill's trade value as soon as possible. The WR won't be getting much more valuable than he is now at this stage of his career.
