Dolphins may have interesting role planned for Tyreek Hill
The Dolphins unsurprisingly have big plans for Tyreek Hill. HAL HABIB / The Palm Beach Post / USA TODAY NETWORK

Tyreek Hill is expected to be the focal point of the Miami Dolphins in 2022, and his role may end up looking quite familiar to those who followed the San Francisco 49ers last season.

Deebo Samuel enjoyed a breakout season in San Francisco last year. He did so under then-offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who is now the head coach in Miami. Naturally, many have wondered if McDaniel will draw up the same types of plays for Hill that he called for Samuel. McDaniel discussed that with reporters on Tuesday.

“There’s probably gonna be some overlap, to some degree,” McDaniel said. “Deebo Samuel evolved into that role because of both circumstance and because of his skill set. I expect no difference, really, with Tyreek,” McDaniel said. “We’ll start with the foundational elements of the receiver position, but we’re going to continue the process of developing him and the Miami Dolphins football team. For a lot of players, that will look different in Week 4 than on April 4.”

Hill had just nine rushing attempts last season. He was used as a running back a lot more in college at Oklahoma State and West Alabama. Samuel had 59 carries in 2021 and scored eight touchdowns on the ground. It would be a shock if Hill doesn’t take more handoffs in Miami than he did in Kansas City.
